Refugee Action York

Last summer Arts in York Hospital exhibited a small collection of portraits I shot as part of Refugee Action York’s Identity project. I’m a bit late with this post but I really love the simplicity of this small collection of images, the split second reactions or non-reactions of teenagers put in front of a camera are priceless.

Refugee Action York (RAY) was founded in 2002 to challenge the myths and misconceptions about refugees and asylum seekers and to raise awareness of the contribution these people make to our society.

Community artist, Griselda Goldsborough, worked with RAY 4 Corners Youth Group to coordinate and deliver six creative art workshops as part of their community engagement project, Identity. Each session explored different areas of identity, including a collaboration with myself to capture portraits that explored their own identity.
